Treasures from the Vault: Binh Pho

A detail shot of the top of the vessel. The outer layer looks like bare twigs, shaped to look like smoothed out bark. The inner layer has blue glass that has been cut and chiseled into. Appearing like lace, delicate lines swirl at the top, and below, organic shapes are carved into the glass. All shapes are inspired by the outdoors, with oak leaves being the main shape.

Now on View: Paper Made Techniques

Brightly colored concentric circles. Different textures accompany the light blue, green, tan, and yellow bands of color. There are sections of woven paper that looks like thread. Other areas show repeated paper materials aligned next to each other in circles. There is a cross section taken out of the lower left corner of the circles. The circles are imperfect, imitating concentric circles found in the cross section of a tree.

Now on View, we see the technically detailed works of paper artists! Curator of Exhibitions, Brit Micho, shows us two works featured in a current exhibit, Paper Made II.

Historical Highlights: Combat Artists from the FWMoA Collection (1/2)

A brown and cream colored image. The horizontal city scape shows the background of buildings, potentially apartment complexes, in the center and on the right. The middle ground has a coupling of bridges and ramps shown on the lefthand side. The foreground shows construction in progress, with exposed I-beams and ladders throughout. Mounds of dirt or sand are held back by beams, butted next to each other, creating a fence. The style is a line sketch with shading, but no additional colors.

Today's Historical Highlights focuses on three artists who all served in the U.S. military. Reflecting on the Ghost Army exhibit, Collection Information Specialist Sue Slick informs us of these impactful artists.

Treasures from the Vault: Toots Zynsky

Art Term Tuesday: Kinetic Sculpture

A stainless steel and stone sculpture, a rock base and stainless top. The shapes created by stainless steel are hollow circles and and organic shapes with pointed ends. The shapes vary in size and width. The sculpture sways the individual shapes from left to right, causing them to overlap each other.

Saturday Studio: Tessellations
