Treasures from the Vault: Megaliths

This glass vessel is composed with natural and neutral colors. Greens, browns, white, and muted yellow mimics the colors found surrounding the Stonehenge in nature. Flecks of red and pink are also seen throughout the piece. The general shape is that of a functional vase, with an accented rim.

Artists throughout the FWMoA collection were given great inspiration while visiting Megaliths. See the outcome across different media in today's Treasure's from the Vault!

Art Term Tuesday: Gauffrage

White paper with an embossed impression. The impression is of several organic shapes next to or inside one another. Similar to the outline of a cartoon lake with islands, the image has several curves and peninsulas. The shadows and highlights on the raised edges give the image its form.

Treasures from the Vault: Ricardo Xavier Serment

This multimedia woodcut has a colorful and graphic style, similar to a comic strip. Three figures in the foreground are walking, with nine small, red, devil figures hovering behind and around them. Two of the taller figures are masked, looking out for the smallest child, who appears unaware of the demonic figures. In the background is a city scape, and behind the three figures is a masked, winged, hero figure, holding back the swarm of small demons.

Now On View: Elements of Texture

Art Term Tuesday: Lamination

A glass sculpture with varying shapes and sized pieces of glass stacked on top of each other. From bottom to top it is made of a silver disk, glass orb, a slanted square twice the width of the sphere, a smaller square holding up the longest piece of glass that is slanted at the opposite 45 degree angle. The very top holds two chunks of glass and a smaller sphere. The entire work feels like it's balancing itself in a way similar to a jenga tower. The front of the work shows a flat, yellow, hollowed out circle.
