National Poetry Month: American Voices Nominees

April is National Poetry month and to celebrate, we’re kicking things off by posting our two poetry American Voices Nominees: Annabeth Bretz and Elizabeth Newsom. Due to COVID-19, the museum will not reopen with the 2020 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards exhibition open to the public, so we’ll be highlighting other Gold Key and Silver Key poems throughout the month as well.

Five American Voices nominees are chosen from the Regional Gold Key winners, and one is awarded the American Voices Medal at the National level. Please enjoy the poetry of Annabeth Bretz from St. Joseph’s High School and Elizabeth Newsom from St. Ursula Academy, recorded at the NPR local affiliate, WBOI studios, in Fort Wayne, IN.

Annabeth Bretz, “yellow paint”.
Elizabeth Newsom, “Where the Rotting Ferns Lie”.
